Hiking

With hundreds of miles of trails on and around the Tapoco property—and even more throughout the surrounding Great Smoky Mountains—you and your pup will have endless terrain to explore. One of our favorites? The nearby Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, home to some of the oldest and most awe-inspiring trees in the Eastern U.S. It’s a must-see for nature lovers and leashed pups alike! Just remember to bring a leash, as most trails require dogs to be leashed at all times.

Tapoco Tavern

After a day of exploring, head to Tapoco Tavern, where pups are welcome to join you for a meal on the dog-friendly outdoor patio. Enjoy riverside dining with your furry companion by your side—just make sure they stay leashed and well-behaved.

Kayaking and Water Sports

Have a water-loving dog? Lake Santeetlah is the perfect destination. Whether it’s swimming along the shore or joining you in a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, this serene mountain lake is a haven for both humans and canines alike.
